Taliban units leave district in Badakhshan amid poppy crop protests: Sources

Amu: Taliban counternarcotics units have withdrawn from the Khash district of Badakhshan Province following two days of local protests against the destruction of poppy fields, according to residents and local sources. Sources told Amu TV that the demonstrations erupted after Taliban forces began eradicating poppy crops in the remote district, prompting pushback from farmers who rely on the cultivation of opium as a primary source of income. Following the withdrawal, local residents set fire to five tractors belonging to the Taliban, according to the same sources. Click here to read more (external link).

Fears grow as artist Zolala Hashemi remains missing in Kabul

Amu: Zolala Hashemi, a well-known artist, has been missing for more than two weeks after being abducted in the capital, Kabul, according to local sources and her family. Taliban security agencies have yet to locate Hashemi, despite reportedly opening an investigation, sources said. Local sources added there is still no confirmation as to whether she is alive. The case comes amid a spike in security and safety incidents in the country based on a new UN report that covers February to April incidents. Click here to read more (external link).

Afghanistan grants visa exemption for Iranian pilgrims

Ariana: Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), on Thursday announced that Iranian pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia to their country via Afghanistan will be exempt from visa requirements for a period of one month. Zalmay Khalilzad faces International Legal Action demand from 76 Afghanistan’s Civil and Human Rights Groups

Khaama: In an open letter, 76 Afghanistan’s civil, human rights, and protest organizations called for international accountability and legal proceedings against Zalmay Khalilzad. The letter accuses Khalilzad of direct involvement in the collapse of Afghanistan’s previous government, whitewashing the Taliban, and facilitating their return to power. Taliban Rename American University Of Afghanistan, Plan Relocation & Expansion

Afghanistan International: The Taliban have officially renamed the former American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) as the Afghan International Islamic University and announced plans to relocate and expand the institution in Kabul. Prior to the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, the American University of Afghanistan was widely regarded as one of the country’s top academic institutions, known for its liberal arts curriculum and ties to Western universities. Afghan national killed in Israeli strike in Iran, sources say

Amu: An 18-year-old Afghan national was killed in recent Israeli airstrikes in Iran, and at least three other Afghan citizens were wounded, according to sources familiar with the incident. The young man, identified as Abdul Wali, was originally from Murghab district in Ghor Province and had traveled to Iran roughly six months ago in search of work amid economic hardship, the sources said.
