Over 1,000 Afghans to be denied entry to Germany despite earlier promises

Ariana: More than 1,000 Afghans who were promised entry to Germany following the Islamic Emirate’s return to power in Kabul will be refused permission to resettle, according to a report by Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung on Tuesday. Citing figures from a parliamentary inquiry, the report stated that nearly half of the 2,308 Afghans awaiting decisions on their applications are now set to be denied entry. Many have been stranded in Pakistan for months or even years, hoping to leave under a German resettlement programme. Click here to read more (external link).

Trump again criticizes U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, calls Biden ‘very stupid’

Ariana: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again criticized the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan under former President Joe Biden, calling Biden “very stupid.” Trump made the remarks on Tuesday during a press conference marking the first anniversary of his second presidential term. During the event, he referred to the 2021 bombing at Kabul International Airport that killed 13 U.S. service members, calling it “the lowest point in the history of our country.” He said that while he also supported ending the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, the withdrawal should have been conducted with “dignity and strength.” Click here to read more (external link).

Afghanistan cruise past Tanzania to stay perfect at U19 World Cup

Amu: Afghanistan’s Under-19 team maintained their perfect start at the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Tanzania on Wednesday, moving to the top of Group D. The win was Afghanistan’s third in three matches at the tournament, following earlier victories over South Africa and West Indies, keeping them unbeaten in the group stage. Sources: Taliban Abduct and Kill a Young Man From Panjshir in Kabul

8am: Local sources say the Taliban abducted a young man from Panjshir province in Kabul and killed him after subjecting him to torture. Sources told Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, January 19, that the 25-year-old, identified as Sayed Jalal, was abducted on Saturday from Lycee Maryam by the Taliban’s intelligence service.  The sources said Sayed Jalal had been deported from Iran two years ago and, after returning, was working as a street vendor in Kabul. Afghanistan defeats West Indies by 38 runs, take early lead in T20I series

Ariana: Afghanistan, also known as AfghanAtalan, delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat the West Indies by 38 runs in the opening match of the T20I series in Dubai, taking a 1–0 lead on Monday.
