Trump angers allies with claim NATO troops ‘stayed a little back’ from frontlines in Afghanistan

23rd January, 2026 · admin

Donald Trump

CNN: US President Donald Trump has once again questioned whether NATO allies would “be there” if the United States “ever needed them,” baselessly claiming that the alliance’s troops “stayed a little back” from the frontlines in Afghanistan. “We’ve never needed them. We have never really asked anything of them. You know, they’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan, or this or that. And they did – they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines,” he said. Click here to read more (external link).

Khaama: India faces uncertainty over its investment in Iran’s Chabahar port after the Trump administration imposed new 25% tariffs on nations engaging economically with Tehran. The project, a collaboration between India, Iran, and Afghanistan, is vital for India’s access to Afghanistan and Central Asia without passing through Pakistan. Despite this, Indian officials insist that exiting Chabahar is not an option. Click here to read more (external link).

Rawadari: Taliban Courts’ Criminal Code Legitimizes Slavery and Repression

22nd January, 2026 · admin

8am: The human rights organization Rawadari recently issued a statement on the implications of the “Criminal Code of Taliban Courts” and warned that this code is deeply concerning and in clear violation of international human rights standards and the fundamental principles of fair trial. The statement notes that, among other things, the Taliban have legitimized slavery by repeatedly using the term “slave” in several sections. The organization also highlighted that the Taliban have classified Afghan Muslims into “Sunni and Jamaat” and “innovators,” a discriminatory categorization that not only creates inequality but also paves the way for widespread repression and arbitrary punishment of religious minorities.
