Deportation of Afghan Refugees: Over 40,000 Forced Out of Iran or Voluntarily Returned to the Country in One Month

8am: In recent months, Iran has intensified its deportation of Afghan refugees. In August alone, 46,838 Afghan refugees were either deported from Iran or voluntarily returned via the Rah-e Abresham border crossing in Nimruz province. Click here to read more (external link).

Afghan Taekwondo Athlete wins bronze in 10th Asian championships

Khaama: On Sunday, Mohsen Rezaei, the captain of Afghanistan’s national taekwondo team, secured a bronze medal. Despite losing in the semi-final to South Korea’s Jang Jun, he reached this achievement. Rzaei won the bronze medal after defeating opponents from Japan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan, with one loss against his Korean opponent. The 9th edition of the Asian Games officially opened on Saturday, inaugurated by the Chinese President in Hangzhou. Click here to read more (external link).

Nationwide polio vaccination campaign kicks off, target is 11 million children

Ariana: The Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan says that the Ministry in cooperation with the relevant United Nations agencies started a nationwide polio vaccination campaign on Monday. According to the ministry, the aim of the campaign is to vaccinate more than 11 million children under the age of five against the wild polio virus. Click here to read more (external link).

Taliban Weighs Using US Mass Surveillance Plan, Met with China’s Huawei

Reuters: Details of how the Taliban intend to expand and manage mass surveillance, including obtaining the U.S. plan, have not been previously reported. The mass camera rollout, which will involve a focus on “important points” in Kabul and elsewhere, is part of a new security strategy that will take four years to be fully implemented, Ministry of Interior spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani told Reuters. Afghanistan Among Top 10 Countries Facing Emergency Level of Hunger: WFP

Tolo News: Afghanistan has been ranked the 2nd top country in the world with more than 1 million of its people suffering from emergency levels of hunger, the World Food Programme in Afghanistan said. Taliban army now totals 170,000: MoD’s Inspector General

Ariana: Ministry of Defense (MoD) Inspector General Latifullah Hakimi says the Islamic Emirate’s army now totals 170,000 personnel. Speaking at an event on Sunday in Herat, attended by a group of university professors, writers, poets and others, Hakimi said that all these forces are equipped with military uniforms and efforts are being made to improve security even further. 84 Afghan athletes taking part in this year’s Asian Games

Ariana: The dazzling opening ceremony was held on Saturday. Athletes from 45 Asian countries are taking part. According to the directorate 84 athletes plus representatives of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee were also at the ceremony. The general directorate of physical education and sport said Afghan athletes will be competing in 15 different sports. Click here to read more (external link).
