An Afghan official says the death toll of a militant attack on a construction company in eastern Afghanistan has risen to 17.
Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province, said three militants stormed a construction company near the main airport in the provincial capital, Jalalabad, after two suicide bombers blew themselves up there on March 6.
Khogyani said a gunbattle started between members of the security forces and the militants after the blast. He said 17 people were killed and 10 wounded — most of them employees of the private construction company.
Khogyani said all the attackers were killed and the situation has been brought under control.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack but both the Taliban and the Islamic State group are active in eastern Afghanistan, especially in Nangarhar province.
