Abdul Ali Mohammadi who was suspended from his post as legal adviser to the presidential palace over the controversial scandal of Smart City project says President was forced to suspend him.

Mohammadi who was summoned to the Wolesi Jirga or Lower House of Parliament on Monday said after the termination of Smart City agreement somebody close to the President asked him to resign in order to get another similar position.

“He came to me and said the case has been criticized in media and by foreigners there for the council decided that you should resign,” he said.

“I rejected to resign and wanted to defend myself,” he added. “As the President had appointed me through a decree, I want him to remove me from the post the same way.”

Ahmadi said the reason he rejected to resign was because several high-ranking government officials were involved in the case but its responsibility would fall only on his shoulder if the resignation would have taken place.

The former legal adviser to the President added that he did not surrendered to pressure so finally he was suspended.

According to Ahmadi, certain elements are trying to hinder the payback-process of Kabul Bank loans.
