Afghans are commemorating the 15th anniversary of the death of Ahmad Shah Massud, the revered Northern Alliance leader and anti-Taliban commander who was assassinated by Al-Qaeda militants on September 9, 2001.
September 8 marks the start of Martyrs Week, which is observed every year in Afghanistan to remember Massud and other national heroes who have died in the past 30 years of war.
Following his death by Al-Qaeda suicide bombers posing as a television crew, Massud was conferred the title of National Hero of Afghanistan.
Thousands of supporters of Massud, who hailed from the country’s ethnic Tajik community, are expected to take part in a march. Government dignitaries will also assemble in the Afghan capital to pay their respects.
Security has been tightened around Kabul ahead of the celebrations, which come amid escalating tensions among the country’s long-warring ethnic and factional groups.
Despite the precautions, one person was killed and three injured in an explosion in Kabul.

All those original leaderships had honorable mission at hand and bound to eventual peaceful, respectful. prosper and independent country for all and, I am sure, would have had never imagined the situation to lead to something WEIRD like this.
I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT ALL OF THOSE GREAT HOME-GROWN LEADERSHIPS, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, WOULD HAVE HAD ALLOWED MILITARY INCURSIONS ON GREAT LANDS OF AFGHANISTAN- I WILL TESTIFY TO THAT FACT ANY TIME.
All those leaders, like Ahmad Shah Massood and others, were all involved and sacrificed in their long struggle of liberating Afghanistan. They all envisioned honorable mission at hand and bound to eventual peaceful, respectful. prosper and independent country for all and, I am sure, would have had never imagined the situation to lead to something WEIRD like this.
