Security News Summary – January 28, 2016

Khost: One civilian and five others were wounded when an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) went off inside a drug store in the provincial capital around midday today.

Baghlan: A teenage girl was injured after three rockets were fired by militants into a residential area of Pul-e Khumri.

Jowzjan: Dozens of rockets were fired at the police headquarters in Aqcha district. According to government officials, one of the rockets hit a civilian house, killing a 22-year-old man. Taliban claim 10 Afghan government security personnel were killed in the attack. Because of the heavy fighting in the district, thousands of civilians have been displaced.

Badghis: Government officials confirm today that 8 Afghan policeman abandoned their post, and surrendered themselves to the Taliban late last night. The policemen were assigned to a check post in the Darwesh Mohammadia locality.

Logar: A governor’s spokesman said that in Barak-e Barak district, one civilian and two Taliban militants were killed as government security forces were performing a clearing operation. He added that 4 Taliban fighters have been captured.

Zabul: Taliban faction loyal to Mullah Mansur is claiming that an Afghan policeman was injured following an attack on Shajoy district, and another was killed following an attack on a check post in Mezana district late last night.
