ministry_of_defense_smallKABUL, April 7 (Xinhua) — Some 55 militants had been killed and 16 others wounded during military operations across Afghanistan since early Wednesday, said the country’s Defense Ministry on Thursday.

“The Afghan National Security Forces conducted ground offensives in close coordination with Afghan Air Force over the last 24 hours, killing 55 terrorists and wounding 16 others,” the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

Up to 14 members of Al-Qaida and 19 fighters of Islamic States (IS) group were among the killed, the statement added.

The operations were carried out in eastern Ghazni, Paktika and Nangarhar provinces, southern Uruzgan and western Farah provinces, the statement said, adding that the joint forces also defused 33 roadside bombs and landmines during the above raids.

The statement also confirmed the loss of six army soldiers as a result of separate attack in countryside over the same period.
