LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) — At least one police personnel was killed and 11 others wounded after a suicide car bombing struck a military convoy in Lashkar Gah, capital of Afghanistan’s southern province of Helmand on Sunday, authorities said.
“The attacker detonated a car bomb along a road at around evening when a joint Afghan-foreign military convoy was passing by the area. The blast caused one killed and 11 injured,” a security source told Xinhua anonymously.
It was not immediately known whether any member of the targeted convoy was hurt in the attack as the official said majority of the victims were passersby.
“Several civilians were among the injured. The wounded were shifted to a surgery hospital where a number of the injured remained in critical condition,” the source said, adding details of the incident will be made public after an ongoing probe.
The Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Taliban has intensified attacks over the past months as the militant group tries to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the country.
