Four Stand Trial In Iran Over Rape Of French Tourist

A court in Iran has begun the trial of four Afghan men accused of raping a French tourist in mountains outside Tehran, Iranian media reported on May 8.

Mehr news agency said that the 24-year-old female tourist was hiking in the Farahzad district on Tehran’s northwestern outskirts on September 19, 2015 when the four men allegedly attacked her.

The woman said in her statement to police that she was rescued by a fifth Afghan, reported IRIB state television.The victim’s name has not been disclosed.

The alleged attackers were reportedly illegal migrants. One of them was captured hiding in mountains and the three others were arrested while trying to flee back to Afghanistan.

The trial is being held behind closed doors.
