The Afghanistan Under-19 national cricket team defeated Zimbabwe in their first One Day International (ODI) match, recording their first victory in the new home ground provided by India.
The game was played in the Greater Noida stadium in India shortly after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
The Zimbabwe Under-19s set a target of 198 runs from 47 overs and by losing all their wickets after Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl first.
On the bowling side Zia-ur-Rehman took 7 wickets, Muslim Musa 2 wickets and Rashid 2 wickets to restrict the Zimbabwe U-19 batsmen.
The Afghan U-19 batsmen chased the given target by losing only 5 wickets in 41 overs with Tariq Stanikzai scoring 52 runs and Rashid Arman 45 runs.
Zia-ur-Rehman Akbar was elected as the mann of the match for his outstanding performance and taking 7 wickets.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer Shafiqullah Stanikzai hailed the victory by the Afghan U-19s and said today’s victory guarantees the bright future of cricket in Afghanistan.
