A prominent Pakistani politician Asfandyar Wali Khan has warned that Pakistan would suffer as well if someone tried to destabilize Afghanistan.
Speaking to the convention of National Youth Organisation, Khan said “If someone tried to destabilise Afghanistan, Pakistan will also suffer in its aftermath. Peace in Afghanistan is not only in the interest of the two countries, but also of the whole world.
He also added “The whole region could come under the wave of terrorism if the two neighbouring countries and the world didn’t take steps to fight terrorism.”
Khan called on Islamabad and Kabul to normalise their relations, insisting that no country would should interfere in the affairs of another country and jointly work for eliminating terrorism.
“Both the countries should fight terrorism or else the region would face more instability and violence,” he added.
Khan is the president of Awami National Party (ANP) of Pakistan. In his remarks last month, Khan criticized the failure to maintain a spirit created by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani following his visit to Pakistan, saying Kabul and Islamabad were on the path of reconciliation.
However, he said some quarters have re-adopted their previous policies regarding Afghanistan, without disclosing further information regarding the circles.
His remarks were followed by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s statement earlier in May this year, saying Pakistan is engaged in an undeclared war with Afghanistan.
