Cricket: Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq signs 1 year contract with Afghanistan cricket

Khaama Press | November 08, 2015

The former Pakistani cricket captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has signed a contract with the Afghanistan Cricket Board as head coach of the Afghan team.

ACB said Saturday that the contract with Inzamam was extended for another one year following the Afghan team’s performance against Zimbabwe under Inzamam’s coaching experience.

Afghanistan clinched historic series wins against Zimbabwe by winning both the One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 series last month.

It was Afghanistan’s first series victory against a full International Cricket Council (ICC) member nation. The ODI series was won 3-2 and followed that up by emerging victorious in both T20s.

Having one and half of cricketing experience, Inzamam had originally agreed to coach Afghanistan on a temporary basis ahead of the ODI and Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe.

He has played 120 Test matches and 388 One Day International (ODI) matches for Pakistan and was offered a similar position by the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2013.

Earlier reports emerged from Pakistan quoting Inzamam as saying that reports regarding the extension of his contract with Afghanistan were baseless.
