Afghans win 8 medals at powerlifting competition

Afghanistan’s weightlifters won 8 medals (7 gold and 1 bronze) in the recently concluded Subrata Classic Open International Powerlifting, Benchpress and Deadlift Championship. The event was held from January 4 – January 9 in Jamshedur India, and was hosted by the Indian Powerlifting Federation.

The medal winners were Abdul Samad Jalali (74kg), Aziz Hamas (83kg), Wazir Sakhizada (105kg), Mohammad Katawazai (120kg), Najibullah Ayoubi (120kg), and strongman Jawaid Rahmani (120kg). Afghan strongman Jawaid Rahmani, who is also a rugby player actually won two gold medals at the event, at which a total of 10 nations and 75 lifters participated in.
