Afghanistan invited to join Saudi-formed Islamic military alliance against terrorism

Saudi Arabia has invited Afghanistan to join its newly formed Islamic military alliance against terrorism.

The invitation was given to Minister of Foreign Affairs by Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Kabul Abdulrahman al- Ghaseb on Tuesday.

Salahuddin Rabbani told al- Ghaseb that Afghanistan will comprehensively assess the issue and adopt its decision in near future.

The alliance which was announced by Saudi Arabia yesterday consists of 34 states that will jointly launch military operations against terrorist groups.

“The countries whose names are listed in this statement have decided to form a military alliance to fight against terrorism led by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a joint operations center shall be established in the city of Riyadh to coordinate and support military operations to fight terrorism and to develop the necessary programs and mechanisms for supporting these efforts,” stated a statement released by the alliance on Tuesday.

“The appropriate arrangements shall be developed for coordination with friendly peace-loving nations and international bodies for the sake of supporting international efforts to combat terrorism and to save international peace and security.”

Besides Saudi Arabia, other countries in the alliance are Pakistan, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Turkey, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Djibouti, Senegal, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Gabon, Guinea, Palestine, Comoros, Qatar, Cote d’Ivoire, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Maldives, Mali, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Yemen.

The statement further states that more than ten other Islamic countries, including Indonesia, have expressed their support for the alliance and will take necessary measures in this regard.
