Parliament: Government must arrest killers of Rukhshana

Khaama Press / November 04, 2015

Parliament on Wednesday urged government to investigate and arrest the killers of a girl who was stoned to death by a “desert court” in central Ghor province.

Lawmakers also advised the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs to instruct Mullahs of every mosque around the country to inform people about the principles of Islam regarding the forced marriages, believed to be the biggest cause behind the violence against women.

MP Habib Danish said that until weapons are not collected from the illegal armed groups and they are not weakened, tragedies like the killing of Farkhuda and Rukhshana would repeat.

Rukhshana, 19, was reportedly stoned to death in Firoz Koh, the provincial capital of Ghor, after she was caught running away with a boy she wanted to get married to.

Police Chief of Ghor province said that Rukhshana was forced to marry against her will. When she left home with another boy, Taliban caught and stoned her to death, he added.
