A shocking report has emerged from the northern Balkh province of Afghanistan revealing a slaughterhouse where weak and sick horses were slaughtered to sell their meat to Afghan police.

According to the local government officials, the contractor was cheating the authorities and was selling the meat to public order police forces, saying they were selling beef and mutton.

Provincial police chief Syed Kamal Sadat confirmed that the meat of weak and sick horses were sold to the public order police forces.

He said a suspect has been arrested in connection to the deceitful act but the authorities in 3rd brigade of the public order forces denied the allegations.

The authorities further added that they are carefully examining the meat before purchasing.

This comes as at least two people were jailed for a period of 13 years each after they were found guilty of selling dog meat to open market in western Herat province.

Another individual was also jailed for three years after he was found guilty of cooperating with the two men.

The two main suspects identified as Abdul Qadir and Mohammad Esa were convicted with the sell meat belong to 150 dogs in the market to the local residents.

The men were arrested earlier in January this year by police shortly after they had beheaded two dogs and were looking to take their meat in local market.
