The Afghanistan national cricket team set a target of 390 runs with their extraordinary performance in their second innings of the ICC Intercontinental Cup on Monday.

Mohammad Shahzad’s 116 together with 112 runs scored by Hashmatullah Shahidi and 127 runs by Asghar Stanikzai helped the Afghan team to overcome the poor performance of the batting line in their first innings.

Afghan batsmen had only scored 144 runs by losing all their wickets during the first innings, after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Despite losing the opening batsman Shabir Noori in the initial minutes of the second innings who was run out by scoring no runs, the middle order batsmen did well in scoring runs.

Gulbadin Naib scored 75 runs, Mirwais Ashraf 54 runs, Noor Ali Zadran 24 runs, and Sharafuddin Ashraf 10 runs.

Papua New Guinea lost four wickets while chasing the given target and scored 110 runs. They still require another 280 runs with six wickets remaining during their second innings of the match.
