Michael Hughes: It has become fashionable in many circles to fault Russia for all the world’s ills and the conflict in Afghanistan is no different. U.S. military leaders, in search of another handy excuse for the colossal failure of its 16-plus-year occupation, have continued to insist that Moscow is arming the Taliban – a group that, it is worth mentioning, is outlawed in Russia. The truth is, however, this side of Pakistan, the insurgents have acquired far more weapons and funding from the U.S. and its Afghan partners than from any other sources on earth. It was never fashionable to blame the Russians; no- it was in fact the US
field generals in Afghanistan and Syria/Iraq imposed war theaters who had already developed very cozy relationships with the Russians soldiers of fortunes who were in return closely linked to the Russian military- it was basically un a form of appeasement to make sure the Russian were earning enough steady profits from the warfares and so they did not cause any trouble in an, already, extremely entrenched and troublesome region .
.
Without the Russian military involvement it would have been extremely hard to fight the resilient Islamic defense lines- they were playing the THUG and THUGHSMAR war games as one whole- that is the fact.of what was going on.
It reminds me of this very popular short story that I read in grade school, back home in Afghanistan.

It was about the fist fight over the posession of standing stolen donkey that raged between two thiefs who once were good partners.
Well, you know what happened- a smart third thief, sneaked his way in a quick jump and escaped away riding on his
newly-stolen donkey.

In this Russian
ongoing weird twist, it remains to be seen
who the “third thief” would turn out to be.
