Afghan singer Mozhdah Jamalzadah angered her fans this week after she posted posted an announcement about the release of her new song on her Facebook page.
Fans were disappointed and angered because most of the nation has been mourning the death of 7 Hazara civilians; four men, two women, and a little girl were beheaded. Most believe the Taliban committed the gruesome acts, but they have denied it and instead are blaming DAESH. However, Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security has dismissed the Taliban claims. Back when the Taliban had control over most of Afghanistan, hundreds of Hazara civilians were brutally killed and put in mass graves by the Taliban. The Taliban see the Hazaras, who are mostly shiite Muslims, as unbelievers or “kafir”.
One person wrote, “Shame on u girl.. Have some respect for your own people. Instead of supporting ur nation ur excited about ur song. Can’t believe this.” Another wrote, “I do have respect for all our Afghan singers but you put us down by celebrating today the release of your new song while we all mourn for the lost of those innocent Hazaras. We should all respect each other as a nation.”
Three hours after her first post, Mozhdah posted an apology: “I would like to send my sincerest apologies to everyone. I was on a long flight and was completely unaware of the tragedy that took place in Afghanistan… I will be postponing the release of the new song on my Facebook page. Thank you for understanding”.
Many forgave her and thanked her for her apology.
