Types of Criminal Background Check
There are two ways of conducting a criminal background check on a person:
- Name-Based Criminal Records
This is the use of a name and date of birth to establish a person’s criminal history. It is done by checking through RCPM and Canadian Police Information center System (CPIC). The National Repository of Criminal Records is checked against an individual’s name and date of birth. This method may be challenging as the last names of different people may be similar and different spellings. Also, a person can intentionally change their names to escape a criminal record.
- Certified Criminal Record Checks
The name-based criminal records might not be able to adequately provide information to confirm a person’s identity. Therefore, you have to provide your fingerprints. This is conducted by the RCPM Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification services (CCRTIS) via the National Repository of Criminal Records. The use of finger prints is used on an informed consent of the user and the information will be shared with a third party named of the form.
